Mr. Boyd is an independent consultant with more than 25 years of consulting experience, spanning a variety of design disciplines – analog, digital and power. His specialty is microcontroller-based designs for consumer and industrial products. Through his consulting company, XL Research, Jim performs design projects on a Time & Materials or Fixed-Fee basis in the following areas:

• Real-Time Microcontroller Software Design ( in C and ASM )
• Single-Chip Microcontroller Hardware Design ( PIC^®, 8051, 6805 )
• Wireless data transmission (RF, IR, AC Power-Line)
• RS-485 & CAN-Bus Networks
• Telephony, Motion and Lighting Applications
• Analog / Digital and PCB Design

Mr. Boyd is an Authorized PICmicro^® Applications Design Expert. Complete in-house development support is available for the full line of Microchip (PIC) microcontrollers at his design lab in northern NJ. He also held the position of Consulting Editor of the popular Ideas for Design section of ELECTRONIC DESIGN magazine from 1995 to 2001. He is a Founding Member and Chairperson of the IEEE Consultants’ Network of Northern NJ.
